1923 Burrell 8 nhp 14 ton 3-speed Double Crank Compound Showmans Road Locomotive - Princess Mary
Works No. 3949 - Reg. No. NO 8287
This engine was built towards the end of the steam era and at the time Burrells were on short time working. Built to incorporate the latest technology of the day and with a lower canopy than usual, so that it could be put on rail when necessary; the radius of the canopy is the same as a railway carriage. A lower canopy also meant it could negotiate some of the very low bridges in its working area of London. Exhibited at the Smithfield Show at Agricultural Hall, Islington, London and sold to Billy Nichols of Forest Gate, London, who later sold it on to London Showman Charlie Presland of Tilbury. Princess Mary was a regular sight at London Fairs for 30 years. Sold for preservation in 1958.
