Great Dorset Steam Fair 2001

1921 Burrell 5 nhp Showmans Road Loco - Earl Beatty
Works No. 3906 - Reg. No. CR 5830
Supplied new 16th March 1921 to Mrs Joseph Smith, Shirley Warren, Southampton, Hampshire. In January 1922 it returned to Thetford for various modifications, which included fitting of machine cut gears, fitting of a dynamo plate, platform and rails together with a lengthened canopy. Baxendale & Co. Ltd. of Manchester supplied a Mather & Platt dynamo capable of producing 140 amps. It then passed to Chipperfields, proudly proclaiming "Chipperfields Outdoor Fairs" on the canopy side boards. It was later purchased by G. Scarrott & Sons from the West Country, who, it is believed, were the engine's last show- land owners. At the end of its working life it found it's way to the Twyford scrapyard of Goodey Brothers, where it stood for many years before purchase for preservation.
